Bedrock Wine Co.

Compagni Portis Vineyard Heirloom White Blend

Loaded with minerality and acidity, this is a fantastic and versatile food wine. Pear and slate on the nose. Hits the palate dry and opens beautifully. Melon and fleshy white fruit balanced by lemon pith. A great version of this blend of German grapes from Sonoma. — a year ago

Ridge Vineyards

Lytton Estate Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Blend 2016

For some reason I love Ridge Zins with a grilled burger. Difficult to describe the notes in this wine.

On the nose: black pepper, blackberry, anise, menthol, floral, slight blueberry and....cherry cola? On the tongue: blackberry, cherry, baking spice, tobacco on the finish. Grippy tannins at first but mellows out extremely fast. Petite sirah cuts through burger fat nicely. Another nice Zin blend from Ridge.

Long Shadows Vintners

Sequel Columbia Valley Syrah 2014

Out of the 4 wines opened at The Bird, this one edged out the Numanthia 12 by a hair. Quite similar profiles IMO. This Walla Walla Syrah was quite enjoyable with dark black fruit on the front. Consistent with the 2015 I tasted a bit ago but IMO, this one had a bit more of a smoked beef flavor in the middle that the dark sweet and still youthful fruit gave way. Chose this as the "food" wine since most chose the Bird Burger (a grass fed beef burger)....it went rather well. Popular with the crowd of novices and winos, the smoky finish was very complementary. Maybe I might acquire a few of these WA Syrahs afterall to have for these purposes....(not a word, @Shay A .... 😆) — 8 years ago

Lol @Shay A the pairing of this wine with a grass-fed beef with that more pungent beef note was really incredible. I could imagine opening up a few Washington Syrahs at Classic and getting some sliders delivered from somewhere that used grass-fed beef. That would be a really awesome afternoon!

Bedrock Wine Co.

Compagni Portis Vineyard Gewürztraminer Blend 2018

An old gewurz-dominant field blend, that comes across especially perfumed and seemingly with a pinch of residual sugar. Simple yet abundantly interesting, and between the sweetness and nice acid backbone, this was a great partner to spicy curries. I enjoy Bedrock’s rendition more than Carlisle’s. — 6 years ago

On the nose notes of graphite, blackberry, plum, cedar, and dark chocolate shavings. On the palate medium-plus body with notes of dark chocolate & cherry truffles, espresso and raspberries. Nicely paired with my favorite burger. — 7 years ago

Vietti

Perbacco Langhe Nebbiolo 2013

Solid, juicy Langhe Nebbiolo from a classic Barolo producer. Nose of slightly dried red cherry, rose petal and lavender, fennel, orange peel, and a bit of volatile asphalt-y character. The nose echoes the palate pretty congruently in terms of flavor, with some eucalyptus freshness and a bit of extra mineral intensity. High acid, nimble, medium (-) body, and medium (+) tannic intensity. Tannins are surprisingly softly textured despite their intensity. I want this with a blue cheese and jalapeño-topped burger. — 9 years ago

Casto Oaks

Jessie's Zin Mount Bullion Vineyards Zinfandel 2017

Mount Bullion Vineyards Casto Oaks Jessie's Zin 2017, Sierra Foothills, California

A very pretty color of ruby with a wide reddish rim, and medium plus intensity.

Dry and fruity on the palate with medium acidity.

Showing black plums, cooked cherries, blueberries, blackberry pie, spices, light oak, vanilla, earth, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and red chili pepper.

This 5 year old Zinfandel is drinking very nicely now. Spicy and smoky. Fruit forward and intense.

Good right out of the bottle, easy drinking, and good for parties.

Spicy with mild complexity. Soft and supple. Rich and interesting.

Peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and will pair nicely with a burger.

15.3% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$25.
