Château Carbonnieux

Grand Cru Classé de Graves Pessac-Léognan White Bordeaux Blend 2020

Blend of 65% Sauvignon Blanc & 35% Semillon, pale lemon-green with pronounce aromas of tropical and stone fruits with herb notes, 25% new oak. On the palate flavors of melon, apple and grapefruit with peppers and a touch of herbs. Medium+ length, balanced lively acidity, ending with a fruit and mineral character. Very good to drink now, will benefit from bottle aging. — 2 months ago

Dark black fruit. Almost cooked. Not stewed. Ripe tannins. Needs air. But wonderful. 2019 — 3 months ago

Sometimes you just want a nice relatively classic Bordeaux. Not sure I’d had their second wine before. Nice with some great classic Bordeaux notes with a nice long finish with good balance. — 5 years ago

On the nose, muted dark cassis, wild dark, brambly berries, dry stems, pepper, loamy soils, blackberry cola and dark fresh florals. The mouthfeel is big and lush. Tannins are soft and round. The fruits are very ripe. Blackberries, blueberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, dark chocolate, mocha powder, salted caramel, spice-box, soft leather, tobacco with ash, crushed dry rocks, stones, black tea & dark fresh florals. The finish is rich, lush and round fruits with just the right touch of earth. As well, the acidity is very good. So little on the nose but the palate is beautiful. Waxiness of the semolina offsets the sauv blanc. White flowers. 2021 — 5 months ago

Pretty stark contrast between this and the Chateau Carbonnieux drank alongside. Much more regal, linear and mature. On the nose, mature dark fruit, forest floor, cassis, leather. Similar in the mouth. Some tannins with good acid. Needed about 2 hours in a decanter to fully realize potential. A proper and mature Pauillac. — 5 years ago
