Beautiful blend of the best of Languedoc whites. 42% Roussanne, 40% Grenache Blanc, 15% Clairette & 5% Viognier. Estate bottled from grapes apparently grown on the 32 hectares of historic vineyards where multiple Roman legions were stationed to protect the vineyards of this region… for god reason. An Eric Solomon selection so it has been selected by someone with the ability to source great wines! Wonderful floral components with light minerality and mildly acid combined with a slight taste of residual sweetness from the fruit forward grapes typical@of the region to give this refreshing wine a perfect balance! — 8 months ago

Calon’s third, but still very classic left bank! Bramble berries, cedar, a hint of graphite. Right in the sweet spot! — 16 days ago

Opened earlier in the day and double decanted a few hours prior to service. The 2011 Chapelle d’Ausone pours an opaque ruby/purple color; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with powerful notes of black currants, purple flowers, tobacco, earth, and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. This was back when Merlot constituted more of the blend at nearly 50/50 with Cabernet Franc (although there seems to be a kinds of ideas about the exact breakdown). These days, it’s nearly 75% Cabernet Franc, a trend that’s been gaining popularity throughout Saint-Emilion. If this is Ausone’s second wine, I would imagine the Grand Vin is pretty sensational…and likely long lived. This seemed youthful. No doubt, the more green nature of the 2011 vintage is playing a role in that but there’s also undeniable quality. Drink now with patience and through 2036 with ease. — 6 months ago

Another solid vintage of this consistently good Provence Rose’. This vintage’s blend is Grenache (50%), Cinsault (30%) and Syrah (20%). Light pink in color with some lavender highlights. Fruit forward aromas of strawberry, watermelon, red flowers and lemon zest. Same fruity flavors with additional notes of peach, orange, and minerals. Touch of white pepper on the tart finish. Crisp, refreshing and clean with a faint hint of sweetness. Nice balance of acidity and alcohol (12.5%). Thanks for sharing, Chris B! — 13 days ago
