I’ve had this wine maybe 12 times over the past 25 years. It remains the single best domestic wine I’ve ever encountered. Balance, power, and exquisite grace are the hallmarks. It bursts from the glass with pure notes of cassis and black fruit, but caresses and embraces your mouth. Pure, craven seduction that keeps you going back for more. This wine just keeps getting better and better. Perfect with rare tenderloin sliders and creamy horseradish sauce. — 6 years ago
Honest Pinot, still primary, built on a modest frame with aromas of sour cherries. Very pure. Nice but a tad short of excellent for me personally. — 6 years ago

I don’t drink much South African wine. Based on this, maybe I should drink more. This mimics a nicely-aged, high-level Crozes. Very earthy nose has lots of fragrant gravelly sandstoney notes. Underneath there is subtle wild mountain purple berry fruit and a subtle feral/animal hint. In the mouth, it’s rich and low-toned, again with loads of gravelly, dry earthy notes. Lots of soft, cheek-coating tannin initially, the finish tightens up a bit at the end. Nice! — 6 months ago
