We opened the 2019 Dominio del Plata Susana Balbo Signature Cabernet Sauvignon. Valle de Uco Mendoza, Argentina. A blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8% Cabernet Franc.

On the nose there is black cherry, blackberry, black plum, licorice, black currant, vanilla, herbs and crushed gravel.

On the palate is cherry, black cherry, black raspberry, black currant, mocha, green vegetal notes, gravel and dried soil.

We just had the 2011 vintage and apparently it has nothing in common with prior vintages. Given time, super chocolate notes to start and later leather and tobacco flavors and nose come through. Not what I would typically expect of a malbec but a nice wine with a good rare steak...and pretty damn good with chicken — 6 years ago
