Vecchio Grion's Rosso del Veneto Red Blend 2013

ESF
9.0

What a treat! Some kind of Bordeaux blend I believe, big time bricking, mature color - CS really stood out aromatically w/eccentric nose of musty attic, forest floor, cassis, currants, black cherry, cranberry, mushroom, cocoa, vanilla, balsamic, just really all over the place, med bodied, decent tannic structure, dry through finish - needs food, definitely on downswing — 2 months ago

Eccentric Chardonnay 2020

A nice light Chardonnay. No oak or heavy butter. Slightly butterscotch and crisp apples. Sweet at first then a tart finish — 3 years ago

Yarra Yering

Dry Red N°1 Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2008

Aromas of cedar, tobacco leaf, black currant and a little vanillin oak. Medium weight palate but medium plus intensity. Classical Cabernet descriptors on nose and palate. An excellent Yarra Valley Cabernet in a district that many say is best suited to Cabernet even though there is good Pinot and Chardonnay as well. This was the last vintage made by the legendary founder of YY, Dr Bailey Carrodus, before he passed. The good Dr was somewhat of an eccentric giving his wines names like Dry Red No 1, No 2 and No 3 as well as an excellent Pinot Noir. This No 1 ( always a Bordeaux blend) is 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 10% Malbec, and 4% Petit Verdot. Bailey never entered his wines in regional shows. If he had there would have been a string of medals and Trophies but he would sell out anyway. The brand carries on brilliantly these days with winemaker Sarah Crowe. — 4 years ago

@Ron R Definitely hard to beat Ron. I agree. Sarah Crowe has carried on the exemplary winemaking from the good Doctor. She has also introduced a range of Dry Whites. My minor gripe is that the price has been creeping up.

Santa Barbara Highlands Grenache 2020

Delectable Wine
9.0

The 2020 Grenache Santa Barbara Highlands Vineyard is airy, gracious and ethereal. Sweet dried cherry fruit, tobacco, leather, spice and rosewater give the 2020 its eccentric feel. The aromatics are especially vibrant owing to healthy amount of whole clusters. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, August 2022)

Bourbon Barrel Aged Malbec 2021

Big fruity boozy thing. Pretty good, but I'd prefer a bit more complexity. — a year ago

Domaine Faury

Saint Joseph Blanc Marsanne Roussanne Blend 2019

Nose is a little simple and eccentric, with banana, raw honey, soil and green apple notes. But then the palate does have a good texture, pleasant acidity and a savory, lasting, yeasted cake quality. A little off dry. Nice framing minerality. — 3 years ago

Eccentric Malbec 2019

Medium bodied and fruity. Smooth drinking. I love this! Not usually a fan of sweeter wines, but this one had a subtle touch of sweetness that I enjoyed. — 3 years ago
