The 2016 Cantenac Brown is a super-concentrated, potent Margaux. Raspberry jam, mocha, licorice, plum, new oak and spice are all lavishly rendered. Broad and sweeping on the palate, with tremendous richness and resonance, Cantenac Brown is one of the bigger, more overt Margauxs of the vintage. Readers should expect a big, ripe wine. In several tastings, the 2016 has come across as a bit over the top, at least for my personal taste. Technical Director Jose Sanfins gave the 2016 16 months in oak, 60% new. Young Tempranillo.
There’s a lot of dirt going on here , both pos. & neg.
N: Musky Strawberries, dirt, reticent.
Supposedly a rather short maceration before being put up in used barriques.
P: Mashed up red fruits, no tannins, like dirty feet. Nice on a hot night w a bit of a chill. No SO2
I keep try Jose Pastór selections and I don’t think we get along.
Addendum: Much better day two after refrig w rubberized stopper. Still not much on the nose, but the palate has rounded”up” into something nice. — 4 years ago
Love this style with green apple acidity — 8 years ago
A little disjointed but showing a lot better than the Arcilla did a few months ago, and I'm thinking a few months more ought to knit these together nicely. Gushing with warm dark fruit but also has plenty of crackle and crunch on account of a green-apple sort of acidity that's very unusual to experience in a red wine. The Jose Pastor web site says this is from one of the highest elevation sites in the zone at 1,000 meters so that crackling texture makes perfect sense. It also has 15% Albillo (a white grape) and yet the complexion feels darker and the fruit more voluptuous than the 100% tempranillo Arcilla. — 10 years ago
This is the Corullon his top wine. Stunning. Pure minerals and tannic structure right now. Almost no fruit. What’s there is dark fruit mixed with some bright red. Medium body and incredible balance. Drinks like if Bordeaux and Burgundy had a baby. Clean and pure. Three more in the cellar. Next one in 2030, if I make it. — 2 years ago
We had the 2015 Camino de arrieros rufete Jose Juan. It was fruity and a bit lighter than I usually go for, but it was very good. Not sweet at all and had a great flavor to it. — 9 years ago
Such a great Verdejo has share my dear friend and colleague Antonio Garcia with me! Fresh and complex, bringing the best of this varietal to show up! Crispy, intense, creamy... — 11 years ago

Tart cherry aromas and a lot of herby notes, light on the palate with tart acidity and lots of herby earthy tannins. Going to be yummy w steak fajitas! — a month ago
