Costières de Nîmes White Rhone Blend 2024

Halos de Jupiter Blanc – white blend – 2024
Côtes du Rhône AOP – Southern Rhône, France 🇫🇷

Overview
A classic Southern Rhône white blend composed of 50% Grenache Blanc, 30% Roussanne, and 20% Marsanne, sourced from vineyards overlooking the Dentelles de Montmirail and Mont Ventoux. Crafted to highlight freshness and complexity rather than weight, this wine captures the authentic character of White Côtes du Rhône at an impressive value-driven price point.

Aromas & Flavors
White peach, ripe pear, and lemon zest open the nose, followed by subtle floral notes, almond skin, and a touch of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, layers of stone fruit, citrus oil, and gentle savory undertones unfold with balance and clarity.

Mouthfeel
Medium-bodied and smooth, with a rounded texture from Grenache Blanc and Marsanne, lifted by the freshness and structure of Roussanne. Nicely balanced acidity keeps the wine energetic and food-friendly, with a clean, satisfying finish.

Food Pairings
Grilled fish, roasted chicken, white meats, fresh goat cheese, or simple Mediterranean dishes with olive oil and herbs.

Verdict
A delicious, approachable, and expressive white Rhône blend that delivers complexity and regional character without excess. Compelling, versatile, and outstanding for the price, a strong example of what White Côtes du Rhône does best.

Costières de Nîmes Red Rhone Blend 2021

Medium ruby in color; cherries, raspberries, and lavender on the nose; high acidity; medium plus tannins; tastes like blackberries, strawberry jam, and black tea with a long finish. — 10 months ago

Gigondas Grenache Blend

I love wines blended by Philippe Cambie! He is often nicknamed "the nose of Chateauneuf-du-Pape" for his talent in bringing the best of a vineyard to a blend. This wine is mostly Grenache (80%) with Mourvèdre(20%) to deepen the wine. Gentle extraction and manual "pigeage" during fermentation befor the wine is aged in concrete for one year. It had a dark color with a ruby rim, a nose of black cherries intertwined with garrigue. The palate got darker with leather and spice. A big finish! — 10 years ago

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Grenache 2016

Stylish, very modern, dense and polished. No hard edges. Despite stylistic impression, the wine is true to place and speaks of the La Crau plateau. Loved it. — 5 years ago

Côtes du Rhône Grenache Blend 2014

This pops with vibrant strawberry and kirsch, but continues reverberating with incense, citrus peel, damp chalk, and licorice. I would happily spend $15 again, but this gives me the confidence to trade up to Halos Gigondas or Chateauneuf du Pape the next time around.

Finally trying this label... Considering the esteem to which I hold Philippe Cambie and my love for Grenache, it's been a long time coming. Cambie, along with a Michel Gassier, produce Grenache-focused bottlings from nearly all the Southern Rhone AOCs under the Halos de Jupiter label. To Cambie, Grenache is the king of all grapes, thus the comparison to Jupiter (Zeus in Greek), forming the basis of the label. The halo symbolizes the appellations that best express the personality of Grenache. http://www.philippecambie.com/en/les-halos-de-jupiter/

@Tom Casagrande But Parker stopped reviewing Southern Rhone, handing the reins to Jeb Dunnuck, so maybe Cambie's wines are now Jebberdized or Dunnucked 😜 But seriously, I get your point and while I might disagree with term, his wines are certainly extracted fruit bombs. Whose Grenache from Southern Rhone do you prefer?

Any wine made by a member of the Reynaud family! . . . if you can find them. Chateau de Tours CD-R is probably the least hard to find. Fonsallette CDR (not the Syrah one) is the bomb, but $$$ and hard to find. As an appellation, I find Gigondas to have a lot of traditionally made Grenache predominant wines at reasonable prices.

@Tom Casagrande Indeed, Rayas lights it up top to bottom.
