Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2014

Double decanted. Notes from 3 hrs open. I am in love with this wine. Stylistically, this is the opposite end of the spectrum from, say, a Louis Latour or Leflaive Corton Charly: this is so vibrant, and lemon drenched mineral, Corton Charlemagne. The nose shows green apple, and lemon curd soaked crushed rock with a very soft nutty note; so intense, I can smell this from a foot away from my glass. On the palate, fantastic dry extract, super-vibrant acid, followed by guava and then lemon and crushed rocks. Excellent weight and a long finish. An acid-head's Corton Charly? Anyway, this is definitely a baby: either needs a very long decant (3hrs at a minimum) or another 3-5 years in bottle. — 7 years ago

Earthy and floral mostly dark fruit. Blueberry with a hint of dark cherry. An Ok Burg but for 121$ too expensive for what it is. — 8 years ago

Les Genevrières Meursault 1er Cru Chardonnay 2013

All of the grapes from the vineyards owned by the Latour family are vinified and aged in the cuverie of Château Corton Grancey in Aloxe-Corton. Aged for 10 months on French oak (50% new). Tried the '13 alongside the '11. Pale yellow woohoo s beautiful nose of fruit, biscuit and mineral notes. Stone fruit flavors, apple and pear, touch of citrus with smoky nuts and earthy tones. Lingering finish, great mouthfeel ending with lemony mineral characteristics. A Gem! Tasting Sample. Let this one age a bit! — 9 years ago

Pouilly-Fuissé Chardonnay 2023

All of the grapes from the vineyards owned by the Latour family are vinified and aged in the cuverie of Château Corton Grancey in Aloxe-Corton. The winery was the first purpose-built cuverie in France and remains the oldest still-functioning. Medium pale lemon color with aromas of stone fruits with a slight nutty floral character. On the palate flavors of peach and melon with lemon citrus and savory notes. Medium+ finish, lively acidity, ending with fruit, toasty oak and minerality. Nice! — 2 months ago

Clos du Roi Corton Grand Cru Pinot Noir

It’s fun drinking Grand Crus, but it’s tough when they’re opened alongside “lesser” red burgundies that are drinking better (at this moment in time). Like many Grand Crus, this comes off as one dimensional but clearly singing its own beautiful song. — 7 years ago

Corton-Charlemagne Chardonnay 1992

Tasted blind. From magnum. Medium gold color, leesy nose. Notes of citrus, almond paste, mint, grapefruit and some ginger. Rich and glycerol in the mouth. Lots of acidity. We're all over the map on deciphering what this is. But we circle back to Burgundy and my guess is 89 Bonneau du Martray Corton Charlie. This wine tonight certainly benefited from aging in the magnum format... we're all amazed at the freshness and quality this 92 still had. — 3 years ago

Château Corton

Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru Chardonnay 2013

👁 This wine was pale gold.

👃On the nose this wine had a medium intensity of youthful aromas. Aromas included primary notes of pear and apple tart, ripe apricot, lemon curd, and wet stone; also secondary notes of cream, butter, and vanilla.

👄 On the palate this wine was dry. It had medium acidity, a medium(+) body, high alcohol, and medium intensity in flavor notes that included primary notes of pear and apple tart, ripe apricot, lemon curd, and wet stone; also secondary notes of cream, butter, and vanilla. The finish was medium(+).

This wine was balanced, delicate, and demure. An elegant Chardonnay grown on the hillsides of the Montagne de Corton in the Grand Cru appellation of Corton-Charlemagne within the Côte de Beaune region of Burgundy. I would love to pair this with lobster tail or scallops and risotto...

On the nose; poached strawberries, cherries, bing cherries, cooked rhubarb, dry cranberries, faint spice, light vanilla, limestone and fresh red florals. The mouthfeel is lean to medium and very juicy. Tannins completely resolved. Strawberries, cherries, bing cherries, cooked rhubarb, dry cranberries, cola, steeped tea, faint spice, limestone minerals, loamy soils, faint spice, touch of vanilla, herbal notes, soft high acidity and lean, elegant, long, fruit finish. Even though this was likely a little better two years ago, it's good but certainly a little disappointing for Grand Cru Burgundy. History notes...the Louis Latour family first bought vines in the Cote de Beaune in 1731, with land in some of the top Burgundy vineyards. Louis Latour is currently run by the seventh Louis Latour, Louis-Fabrice Latour featured in the photo. They are a huge négociant with property holdings in Aloxe-Corton (their largest holdings) and Corton-Charlemagne. They also own parts of Corton Clos de la Vigne au Saint Grand Cru, Corton Bressandes Grand Cru, Corton Les Chaumes Grand Cru, Corton Les Pougets Grand Cru, Corton Les Perrières Grand Cru, Corton Clos du Roi Grand Cru, Corton Les Grèves Grand Cru. Also, own parts of the Premiers Crus“Les Chaillots”, “Les Founières”, Chambertin, Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Chevalier-Montrachet “Les Demoiselles." They use French oak vats for short period of fermentation on nearly all their red wines. Then...they spend 12 months in French oak barrels. The red wines of Domaine Louis Latour are still vinified and aged at Corton Grancey featured in the photo. — 9 years ago
