Midbar

Grenache 2020

midbar (๐Ÿœ๏ธ in hebrew) winery 100% grenache from mitzpe ramon.

20% whole cluster fermentation.
6 months in old oak.

the new winemaker in the winery was an assistant to Claudioย Fenocchio in piedmont. and it shows.

14.5% abv yet so drinkable.

pale ruby ๐Ÿ‘€

mostly sour red ๐Ÿ’with a splash of jam and a bit of dirt ๐Ÿ‘ƒ

medium body.
medium plus acidity.
low tannins.

lovely ๐Ÿ‘„of tart red cherries, dried ๐Ÿ“, raspberry, smoke, tar, that jam splash and a bit of earth, with stones and cranberry crushed in the mix.

medium - ๐ŸŽฏ

what a lovely lovely silky surprise.
blind tasting i was feeling french tenderness of pinot noir(but that would be too expensive for my wine club) or maybe gamay. but it had the italian elegant boldness. i was confused and quite shocked finding out this ๐Ÿ’Ž is local.

paired ok with 'all purpose' green sauce made from green leftovers, lime peel, olive oil and garlic (nyt cooking) mixed with pureed ๐Ÿฅ” and my mom's turmeric grilled white fish.

such a great wine!

Premium limited Editio Negev Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

Midbar winery. Cabernet Sauvignon 2019. From the Israel Negev heights area, a desert wine at altitude of 800 meters.
Very young, aggressive. The fruit is the drive of the wine and its balanced nice. A food wine that supports the dish with its spicy(mild) notes. Dark purple color.
I will open the next one in a few years to see the development

Pinot Noir 2018

my first ever pinot noir.
not from full on cold climate but from the Israeli negev desert(hot days and cold nights)

nothing to compare to so I'm not very confident reviewing.

100% pinot noir

14.4% abv

red fruit with leather and barnyard hints ๐Ÿ‘ƒ

medium body.
high acidity.

tart and fruity with firm but light tannins ๐Ÿ‘„

long ๐ŸŽฏ that lingers on.

paired well with big varaiety brunch buffet.

krembo - sweet Israeli mass produced dessert made of industrial whipped cream, biscuit and 'chocolate' coat made it jammy and delicious.

great vfm (98 nis)

let's have some burgundy pinot and think it all through please.
