Shake Ridge Ranch Grenache 2012

4th of July BBQ 'tweener wine. I had opened this and had a glass or two the day before, but brought it out for guests while waiting for the Cab to get some air. This is a really nice Grenache. Beautiful translucent red, nice nose and so well balanced. Love what @Angela Osborne is doing with this grape. — 10 years ago

Super impressed with this wine. Probably the best impression of Grenache I've ever tasted outside of France.

Manzanilla Jerez-Xérès-Sherry

What’s that you see on the label? Well, of course, it’s the outline of Spain’s most ferocious animal, El Toro! Although this version of manzanilla is not the cleanest you’ll find it still whisks you back to traversing the sunflower laden highways of Andalucía with nothing but a chilled bottle of this wonderfully dry sherry, some dry cured ham, a loaf of crusty bread and some pungent queso cabrales. Olé, my fellow oenophiles, close your eyes and imagine your back in the land of Fería and Sevillanas. — 6 years ago

Had an astounding Sabon 2003 CNdP last summer. Superb. Second bottle corked! Darn. Will be back there this summer and will buy 2009, 2010, 2015, 2016 vintages.

Bodegas Osborne Solaz Tempranillo Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Forward cherry, raspberry, and the faintest hint of mint. On the palate you're getting tart cherry jam with a citrus, green apple pop of acidity. Finish isn't anything amazing, but the tannins will grip anything off a BBQ, especially with some spice. Very drinkable on its own as well. Solid value at less than $12 — 10 years ago

Bodegas Montecillo

Gran Reserva Selección Especial Tempranillo

So this was one of those moments, where I have an opportunity to taste a wine that affects my perspective as a winemaker. It was such an honor to savor a 22 year old Rioja Tempranillo. My first thoughts were "Breathe it in. I'm in love..." 100% Tempranillo, aged for 4.5 yrs in all French Oak, bottled in May of 1999. Subtle oak, tea. Menthol on the finish. Smooth with such finesse. A little soy sauce. When those in Rioja say that they make Tempranillo that will live long, they aren't kidding! Special thanks to Rocio Osborne, 6th generation at #bodegasmontecillo for sharing this beautiful wine with Deb and I today. — 10 years ago
