Probably the best Blaufränkisch I‘ve ever had!
Very deep & dense dark red, heavy viscosity.
Lots of purple fruit, a basket full of spices (black pepper, cinnamon, vanilla, herbal notes) and earthy notes (wet loamy soil).
High but smooth tannins, mouthwatering minerality, fine acidity, well integrated alcohol. Relatively dominant oak - needs much more time to integrate. Potential for two decades at least, with optimal drinking window starting at ~2020. — 9 years ago

My Independence Day wine. Named for the patriot Filippo Mazzei who's great doctrine "All men are created equal" was incorporated into the Declaration of Independence by his great friend Thomas Jefferson. He's also the great viticulturist who planted the first vineyards at the Jefferson estate in Monticello, Virginia. — 12 years ago
