The 2021 Pinot Noir (Sta. Rita Hills) is such a beautiful wine. The appellation Pinot is often one of my favorite wines in this range, as it is again this year. The purity and exuberance of this fruit is compelling. Floral and savory nuances develop in the glass, but earlier bottling and a bit less whole cluster influence work well to accentuate the textural presence and intensity of the fruit. This is such a gorgeous wine. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, September 2023)

Great wine ready for enjoying with a lovely piece of meat, rounded with body soft after tones to flavour. — 2 years ago
From Kevin Carriker (used to work with Mark Herold for the early vintages - not sure about these later ones). Excellent Napa cab that went great with grilled filet mignon. Could easily improve in the bottle for a few more years. Not the best incarnation of Kobalt that I’ve had, but it’s still very good. — 3 years ago
This is a gorgeous 15 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley.
Full bodied with medium acidity.
Dry and very fruity on the palate with nice complexity and a soft mouthfeel.
Showing black fruits with cedar, vanilla, leather, spices, earth, chocolates, tobacco, coffee and peppercorn.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.
Showing great complexity on the nose and palate.
Peaking now and will continue to drink nicely in the next 5 years.
Good right out of the bottle and good by itself. Will pair nicely with a big piece of steak.
13.9% alcohol by volume.

Brought to Au Courant from our cellar to celebrate our daughter’s 15th birthday. As far as I can tell, 2009 was the first commercially available vintage of Thibault’s foray into Moulin-a-Vent so this was fun to try since I’ve been a big fan of his work there.
Poured into a decanter about an hour prior to service. The 2009 VV pours a deep ruby/purple with a near opaque core; medium viscosity and some light staining of the tears. There were some signs of sediment but most had been decanted off. On the nose, the wine is…well…pretty wild with notes of horse blanket and there’s just a touch of varnish in there too. For me, it’s teetering on the edge of, “is this charming or is this overbearing”? However, since there was more there than just a cow pasture and I don’t get any gerbil cage, I’ll leave this in the “charming” camp but I digress…back to the notes from the nose. The wine is developing, with dark crunchy berries, dark cherries, sandalwood...some pepper, some leather and light notes of potting soil. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannins and medium+ acid. The first glass showed a touch of effervescence like there could have been a slight refermentation in the bottle. Confirming the notes from the nose though it seems cleaner on the palate with some granite minerals on the finish. Interesting, it’s almost like this was semi-carbonic but as far as I know, Thibault has been making these wines using the same methods as he does his GC wines in Nuits-Saint-Georges so I don’t know. And this is why I like this wine. It’s making me think...and it’s been enjoyable throughout the meal, working particularly well with our strip steak. Yum! A really fun wine for those that enjoy something a little more rustic. That being said, I know it wouldn’t have pleased everyone. There is plenty of gas left in the tank and while this drinks very well now, I would expect that this will continue to drink well through 2029 with ease. — 9 months ago
Pale straw gold with silver highlights. Somewhat shy nose of underripe Fuji apple and Asian pear. Firm acidity leads the smoky/flinty light-bodied palate of underripe pome fruit and citrus rind. Remarkably long (8-9 secs) palate cleansing finish. Merciful saints! This is the entry level wine from the Dagueneau portfolio and it makes you want to go higher! Food is, of course, its friend, but if you’re into “sipping culture” this will work for you as well. Seafood (cooked or sushi) is a particularly fine pair, naturally. Drink now through 2027. — 3 years ago
Inky in color with a short purplish rim.
Strong nose with black fruits, cedar, licorice, chocolates, light vegetables, wild flowers and peppercorn.
Full-bodied and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black cherries, currants, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, cola, herbs, licorice, dark chocolates, light earth and peppercorn.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.
This young Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Napa Valley is already delicious.
Rich and engaging. Powerful and dark. Still a little unforgiving. Spicy and fruit forward.
Much earthier on the nose than on the palate. Only after 2.5 hours it balances out, so be patient.
Will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years, and has good potential to become a 94+ point wine. Would be nice to revisit it in 5 years.
I Had a few vintages of this wine and it is very consistent.
Good by itself as a sipping wine or with food. Will pair nicely with a big piece of steak.
A blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec. Grapes were handpicked and aged for 18 months in mostly French oak barrels.

Dark ruby in color with a short reddish rim.
Full bodied with medium plus acidity.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, spices, oak, vanilla, licorice, chocolates, light earth, light vegetables, herbs, tobacco leaf and black pepper.
Medium finish with grippy tannins and raspberries.
This 15 year old, Fifth Growth Bordeaux, is still young and tight. Needs 5 to 10 years in the bottle to mature properly.
I gave it 90 minutes in the decanter, but it probably was not enough.

Showing nice complexity with a nice mouthfeel. Grippy and rich.
Definitely needs food at this point, like a big piece of steak.
A blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot.

It is time for a delicious Cabernet for my #FridayCabernetfix.
Deep inky in color with a short purple rim.
Fruity nose of blueberries, black cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, chocolates, herbs, light eucalyptus, black pepper, herbs and black tea.
Full bodied with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, figs, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, herbs, earth and peppercorn.
Long finish with round tannins and tangy cherries.
This 8 year old from the great 2014 vintage, is drinking very nicely now. Fruit forward, rich and extracted.
Showing great complexity already, and will continue to age nicely in the next 20 years.
This Single Vineyard is opulent and very smooth. Gorgeous with generous fruit.
Good right out of the bottle and better after an hour of airtime.

This is the regular bottling of Vietti’s Moscato d’Asti. I’m not normally a Moscato frizzante guy but I’m trying out an unusual recipe that calls for half a bottle of it. So we’re drinking the rest of it and it’s quite nice. Loads of spritely fruit on the nose, ripe and zesty in the mouth. Super clean and pure tasting. This would be dynamite rehydration after a work-out! Only 5% alcohol! — 4 months ago
