Officially winter here and I immediately wanted to enjoy a bigger wine. It’s funny how the temperature outside can easily influence my wine choices. First time trying this one.

Mending Wall is a collaborative effort between three families that includes winemaker Thomas Rivers Brown, Outpost Winery (Frank Dotzler) and Pulido-Walker (Mark Pulido & Donna Walker). It is located on the edge of St. Helena, at the foothills of Howell Mountain. The name comes from a Robert Frost poem. There is a line in the poem ‘Good fences make good neighbors.’

The 2017 is approachable now. Big, yet soft Cab. No need in waiting years, enjoy now with a short decant. Worth mentioning that it had a lot of sediment for a relatively young wine.

Ruby hue with high saturation. Aromas and flavors of baking spice, blackberry, cherry, licorice, oak, strawberry, toast, and vanilla. Full body; heavy (but not overpowering) tannins; and medium-high acidity. Bold on the nose and smooth on the palate, with a long, engaging finish. Reminiscent of lines from a Robert Frost poem: "lovely, dark and deep". Incredible QPR. — 5 years ago

Oh my goodness, here is goodness itself. Such an accessible poem this wine. Forthcoming wild strawberry jam and bark and sweet smoke like incense. It's like when someone remembers the things you love, the things maybe you even forgot you loved, and tries, really tries, for you and their effort engulfs you and they don't see that consideration in themselves but it's so vivid in your eyes. — 7 years ago

One of the first 2013s to really show through as I haven’t seen too many that aren’t overpowering at this point. If I could attach the clip of Rodney Dangerfield I’m Back to School where he recites the poem - he keeps saying “Yes”..... then that’s what I would’ve done here. Had fun with a “Judgement of Granite Bay” France vs. California challenge. Both ‘15s, both originally about the same price. The Bedrock was plush and luxurious on the palate while soft on the nose. Glorious to drink. The Graillott nose was like an epic poem about the inside of a French barn. Loved it. But the palate didn’t match. I could swirl and smell that Graillott forever.... and then following that with a sip of the Bedrock... managed the perfect wine! — 4 years ago

This is outstanding liquid. We were given the bottle around our wedding along with a poem and told to consume it for our first anniversary. Well, we're three years married and just getting to it now... At a hotel... Before a Drake concert... Anyway, the wine has all kinds of complexity. Blueberry and black plum dominate for me with cedar or new oak flavors also dancing throughout. Really well done. — 6 years ago
