Utterly beautiful. As normal, belies the punt of sugar in it. Smooth, bright gold fruits with rich, in limited vocabulary, tokajness.

1999 Sine Qua Non “Ox” Pinot Noir from the wonderful Shea Vineyard in Yamhill County, Oregon. 14% alcohol. I’ve always loved the simple label on this gigantic bottle with the cavernous punt. And I was all ready to wax poetic about the romance of opening one of these older SQNs as, based on a couple of recent tastings, I was told that this bottle is well over the hill. Well, that just ain’t so. At least not with this bottle which has been lovingly stored since release. Now I’m not going to try and convince you that the “Ox” is at its peak, but the old girl still has some tricks up her sleeve. Crystal clear, bright, medium garnet appearance. A little bricky on the edges. Smokey notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, truffles and clove on the nose. Quite vibrant palate of sweet strawberries and cola as well as spice box with a hint of vanilla, toast and that clove. A touch earthy. Nice acidity. Super silky mouthfeel. Short, but decent smokey finish with a bite reminiscent of Sweet Tarts candy. Tangy! Extremely enjoyable! Well made is well made. Chapeau Mr. Krankl! — 9 years ago

Quite dense crimson in colour. Very spicy nose with meaty notes. Silky graphite like tannins. More savoury spicy than fruity on the medium weight palate. Great conditions in the Yarra Valley in 2015. The winner of the Trevor Mast Trophy for Best Shiraz and also Trophy for best single vineyard wine at the Royal Melbourne Wine Awards in 2016. Amazing QPR at only $30. Espectacular després 11 anys, al punt òptim per beure! Vi 100% tempranillo, mot rodó i ben acabat. En nas fruita vermella madura, flors seques i punts balsàmics. I think my first btl of this must have been from a friend's stock as I thought I was out of this. On the nose: massive reduction, with loads of struck match...this suggests a gravitas that the wine just can't live up to. Reduction dominates the nose, so there's nothing else to say about that. On the palate, hi-toned meyer lemon, rich lemon tart with butter, but surprisingly light-bodied..leaning a touch thin. Ok finish, which shows some white pepper. OK, but slightly disjointed...moral is: noble reduction and a big punt does not a great white burg make? — 6 years ago

A beat up label from being moved around in my cellar too much, furry mold in the punt and on the cork, but inside.... Amazingly youthful for 16 years old. Bright, clean, crystalline red fruit. Un dels millors elaboradors de blancs de Borgonya fa aquest sensacional chardonnay. Cultiu biodinàmic, de vinyes d’entre 30-35 anys, fermentat 12 mesos en bóta i traspassat a inox 9 mesos. Es filtra. Te una olor a pell, un punt reduït. Vi equilibrat en boca, amb una acidesa marcada però perfecte. Omple la boca, molt de volum, amb un punt de nervi i mineral. Llarg regust.
