Pieksman Wijnimport, Amsterdam
Drinking a birthyear wine (2/2). In 1983 only the Nothern Rhone seemed to have produced ageworthy wines. To tick the birthyear wine box this wine was bought by Niek. Hopes where high and drinking this wine together was for sure a great intellectual pleasure alongside with a special dinner. Should you ask me to focus on the performance of the wine tastewise I would have to tell you the wine was really really fragile, dominated by earthy aromas of fungus/mushroom, but underneath the character of Syrah was still there. Nevertheless this was one of the most special bottles for me to have opened up! — 6 years ago

Drinking a birthyear wine (1/2). When you are born in 1983, birthyear wines, that are still a pleasure to drink, are hard to find. All wineregions that produce wines able to age, failed to produce some in this year. So drinking a birthyear wine became a bit of an obsession. Out of the books it became clear that the Nothern Rhone would be the best region to place my bets. Untill, by coincidence, Someone gave me a '83 Trévallon as a gift. Through their website I found out that Dürrbach considers this one of his best vintages ever made! Five years ago it was tasted by the domaine and they gave it another four to five years. What a surprise! Luckily the bottle I had was still in a good shape. Fragile but convincing taste, still a firm body, lots of tertiair aromas and even some fruitexpression. Mission accomplished! — 6 years ago
