Duckhorn Vineyards

Three Palms Vineyard Merlot 2019

AEL
9.3

Opened it too young, but a great year for this outstanding CA merlot. A distinct burnt cinnamon edge, powdered chocolate, blackberry/blueberry. Not too heavy on the palate; a bit tannic. In FL, to Dad's memory. — 2 years ago

Château Phélan Ségur

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2014

Herbaceous. Black cherry meets trumpet mushrooms, dried violets and roses. Silky warm plum compote. On the palate, a well-knit red and black cherry see cranberry compote instead; red currant, dried raspberry and blackberry. Lovely exhibit of dried flowers, touches of iron and graphite sparkle on the long long tail.

Domaine Marquis d'Angerville

Domaine du Pélican Arbois Savagnin Ouillé 2019

Apple pear. Bade dried with a freshness to it. I joked about needing a calibration since I feel like I have phantom oxidation but this was well integrated. I immediately called jura and Paul was shocked. It was an awesome wine. Good minerality and cheesy on the nose. Beautiful color. Definitely an incredible wine. — 2 years ago

Cantina Terlan

Vorberg Riserva Terlano Pinot Bianco 2018

A wine to contemplate. Light yellow in color. Aromas of flowers, mint , cumin. Bitter on the palate with orange, citrus and almond. Very acidic. Quite distinctive and elegant. Unusual stuff and worth searching out. — 2 years ago

Château Angélus

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Wow. Absolutely stunning tonight. So generous and giving after hardly any aeration, 2000 Angelus wafts from the glass and the decanter with explosive aromatics of blackberry jam, creme de cassis, cigar box and damp earth. It has the most perfect balance of deep fruit intensity and tertiary character, and the palate shows an incredible combination of finesse, density and lift, with a regal mouthfeel and melting tannins. Just stays with you forever. A masterful seesaw between power and elegance. For my tastes, this is in the perfect spot. Fabulous. — 2 years ago
