Château Maris

Le Carignane de Maris 2017

Wild fruit, Boysenberry, bright wet herbs, iron minerality, approachable tannin, great acid and a long cherry finish. Really nice. Had with homemade meatloaf last night, now time for an oven toasted meatloaf sandwich for lunch today. Organic wine. — 4 years ago

Saxum Vineyards

Paderewski Vineyard Zinfandel Blend 2012

A perfect summer evening in Michigan, the 2012 version of this wine from Justin is drinking beautifully right now (the expression on Vanessa’s face notwithstanding - pretty sure that’s for something I likely said!). What the wine has lost in terms of primary fruit it has gained in secondary flavors. Still zin-driven in the profile, but the morvedre and tempranillo in the blend is coming through much moreso than the last time I opened one of these in 2017. Not convinced this is going to get better, so if you have this in your cellar, I recommend opening it soon and enjoy. — 4 years ago

Cuvelier Los Andes

Colección Malbec Blend 2014

Deep red with dark berries and leather. The nose keep developing spices like coriander seeds and black pepper. Reasonably well structured tannins made to last. — 4 years ago

This is an epic champagne. Had it a few weeks back and couldn’t believe how fresh it was.

Château Pichon-Longueville Baron

Baron de Pichon-Longueville Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1989

Profound. Energetic with a long spicy finish. Obvious pedigree but nearly light-bodied. Tad hot in finish. Room to run. Last bottle of my recent inheritance. 😢 — 4 years ago

@romo A shame this was your last one, great wine in a great vintage.

Champagne Clandestin

Les Semblables Champagne Pinot Noir 2015

Rhubarb and lemon on the nose. Just enough oak use to give it a little oxygen exchange. Wonderful acidity, some autolyse. Like it more now than last time, has some good development, slightly softened corners. — 4 years ago

Hundred Acre Vineyard

Ark Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

What was your last critic rated “100pt” wine? This one, a huge Napa Cab, an atypical wine for me, but it was beautiful after a 4 hour decant. 15.5% alcohol, but you would never know it. Incredibly deep, layered and intensely flavored with marvelous texture and mouthfeel. Rich black and blue fruits, mocha, subtle hints of charcuterie and seamless oak integration with a 30 second finish. 💥 — 4 years ago

I’m sitting on a 2013 of this and have no clue when I want to open it. You’re note has me looking forward to it.

@Shay A The wines are so well made that they’ll show really well young with a sufficient decant. 2013 Napa cab will definitely be a long lived vintage though. Depends on your patience! Haha 😅
