Just gorgeous bourgogne blanc, but I think this is Chassagne in all but name (Cassaneas is the ancient name for Chassagne). On the nose, sweet fruit at first, but becomes more taut: lemon, slathered with minerals, sweet lime. On the palate, ultra-focused acidity, crystalline lemon and lime, sour apple. Lovelt mouthfeel and a very focused and refreshing finish. Fantastic. Better than the 17 Dancer Bourgogne Blanc, which shows a bit more overt oak. — 4 years ago

Delicious wine, lot’s of red fruit, medium bodied and very balanced with good acidity and approachable tannins. Drank side to side with the 2017 and we preferred the 2016 at this stage.

Petaluma Tiers - In my mind, a first-growth chard from down under.
I spat my pacifier out when the cork disintegrated, but I need not have been concerned.
The visual presentation is stunning - look at that golden color in the glass. The nose displays roasted almonds, nutmeg, toasted bread and white fruits.
Palate is regal, revealing poise, layers and complexity. The mouthfeel is dense, while notes of nuts, exotic fruits and oak are layered. The acidity provides a frame for the overall structure. The almost undetectable oxidation is to be expected, but that just adds to what is a stunning example.

Very closed at the moment.. took two days to really open. Over time an ethereal high-tone perfume of dark red fruit emerges; ripe dark sour cherry, cherry lipstick, tart berry liqueur, cardamom and white pepper. Palate is riper than previous vintages but still full of driving acid, with silky tannins and a long finish. Some va hinting at acetone. Lovely, just needs time. — 4 years ago

Dark blackish purple. Inviting nose of blackberry cobbler and boysenberry syrup. Full-bodied palate echoes the nose adding supple, medium plus tannins and a backbone of medium acidity. A fantastic New World representation of the variety in which the signature body and structure sit squarely in a universal comfort zone. This is really fragrant and perfumed, but wild as hell. There’s not a fruit in here that isn’t wild: wild strawberries and raspberries, and maybe even watermelon at first. But meaty and wild. Savory rich florals: curry plant and violet and rose. Really soulful and organically balanced. Unique as all hell, has a human feel. I’ve never had a cote rotie like this one.
