Long Shadows Vintners

Feather Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Made by superstar winemaker, Randy Dunn, of Dunn Vineyards, the 2017 ‘Feather’ by Long Shadows is a masterful effort from this exciting warmer vintage in Washington. Once on the nose there is a lovely round core of toasty oak that wraps around the rich dark fruits, sagebrush and chocolate fudge aromatics that all meld in the glass. The palate is silky smooth, revealing a round and generous mouthfeel. The seamless effect created mid-palate is utterly fantastic. Black currants and blackberry cordial dance with shades of Black Forest Cake and espresso bean on this highly complex palate. This finishes long with dark fruits and a beam of minerality. While enticing to savor now, the 2017 ‘Feather’ will have a long life ahead of it. If enjoying in its youth, be sure to afford a two hour decant prior to enjoying. Drink 2021-2040- 95 — 5 years ago

Krug

Brut Champagne Blend 2004

This was the bottle I’ve been waiting so patiently to crack over the last few months. Mr Spittoon and I came across this bottle after my 12 week ultrasound - once we found out our baby boy was healthy and growing well. We wanted to buy something special to celebrate and to drink once our baby was born 💙

2004 was also the year we met, so this vintage has a special place in our hearts 💕

We finally cracked this on the weekend and it was worth the wait and the price tag 💛

In the glass it’s a pale golden shade with teeny tiny bubbles. It’s alluring and elegant. On the nose it makes me think of oaked fruit, it has hint of caramel and actually makes me think of banoffee pie. There’s also some candied citrus in there - it sounds like I’m describing a sweet wine yet it’s very much dry. In the mouth it’s like apple crumble. It has a Granny Smith Apple 🍏 acidity alongside a creamy, biscuity taste to it. The mousse is delicate and super smooth with an ultra long lasting, lip-licking finish. Totally worth the 9 month wait👌

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Outpost

Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Had this 2017 Outpost cab during a zoom tasting with @Antonio Galloni and Thomas Rivers Brown today! For a 2017 this wine is phenomenal.. so good right now but will certainly get better with more aging! — 5 years ago

Screaming Eagle

Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

My wife wanted a "decent" cab for our 14th anniversary....so I pulled a bottle from this small "unheralded" Oakville producer. These really shine with some age.

1.5 hour decant(good amount of fine sediment). Served about 5 degrees above cellar temperature. An impressive inky dark reddish/purple color with little signs of aging. On the nose: Bursting from the glass are Plum, creme brulee, wet forest floor, touch of stewed meat, ends with a quick hit of chocolate coffee. Taste: Velvety and elegant...red cherry, chocolate, dried herbs, spice. A soft, dense wine, with tannins that have sweetened but are still there ready to go for the long haul (but drinking fine right now!!)...slight alcohol burn on the finish.

Already looking forward to seeing what you’ll be pouring for your 15th anniversary. Cheers & happy anniversary!

Walter Scott

La Combe Verte Chardonnay 2017

I think Ken is making some of the best domestic Chardonnay, possibly one of the best in the NW. The wines have always been about freshness, purity, and tension, but the level of balance and detail continues forward. This “entry” level proves it, and like any great Burgundy domain’s Bourgogne level wine, the level of care and detail here reflect the wider scope of his wines. I would argue that this wine would smoke just about most white burgundy in its price point and even above. — 5 years ago

Love the 17. 18 was a sensational vintage for both Sonoma and Napa. Looking forward to trying the 18 SB soon. Thanks again

Château Gloria

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

This was excellent. We love the fruit, but it was very obviously young. The tannins definitely need several years to relax - really tight and chalky. I’m really excited about these with more age, hopefully I can wait that long.... — 5 years ago

A Dark beautiful ruby red color!
Black cherry floral and scents of sweet perfume popping from the nose. Lingers with minty menthol and earth spices.

Taste: Wow! Black cherry and red plum fruit with a nice acidity making it a juicy wine that just lays on the palette as you enjoy the many layers: cedar, spicy mocha coffee, toasty oak, pencil lead and minerally finish. Sweet tannins coat the mouth and a velvety long finish. Full body and elegant!Decanted an hour. Definitely will drink well for another 10 years.
