One of my favorite wines of the year so far, so simple but so perfect in complexity and pleasure giving.
From a relatively unknown producer in the US except for the hard core Wachau enthusiasts, the 1000 Eimerberg Riesling Federspiel from Gritsch Mauritiushof is so good right now. A vibrant and electric yellow color with a slight green tint. The nose is lively and energetic with fresh sweet lemons, a little apple and lots of sweet aromatic white flowers. The palate is medium bodied but dense and focused adding a layer of rock to the mineral core. The acidity is just right and perfectly balanced providing tension to the fruit and floral spectrum this delivers. Do yourself a favor and Google search 1000 Eimerberg and check out this crazy steep vineyard. #gritsch #mauritiushof #wachau #riesling #federspiel #1000eimerberg #spitz #austria — 7 years ago
Med - concentration with straw core and a clear rim. The nose and palate were both a little blah. Med intensity and complexity with underripe citrus, white flowers, apple skin, white pepper, and hay. The palate lacked grip even with med + acid. Med - complexity and short length. Nice for a patio pounder. #tegernseerhoff #wachau #austria #grunerveltliner #federspiel #t26 #ctbucklinwine — 8 years ago
Richer texturally than expected, but it is a #Federspiel, so the richness can be accounted for in that. Shy nose that did have a wee breath of green pepper. fun. — 9 years ago

Straw hue, strong citrus notes on the nose and palate, lemon and orange peel and grapefruit; also, white pepper and delicate albeit spicy vegetal notes. Jumpy acidity on the palate almost effervescent but without visual evidence of gas. Light, fresh, crisp, and dry. 12% ABV. Vintage 2017. #federspiel #grunerveltliner #rudipichler #wachau #austrianwine — 5 years ago
