Drinking a Napa Cab in lieu of my planned trip there next week that had to be cancelled. Crystallization on the cork. Dark garnet, almost black in the glass. Heady rose petal nose with notes of smoke. Leather, dark milk chocolate, sweet cherry, baking spice. Smooth finish that has lost some length with time in the cellar. Really solid Howell Mountain Cab that has many years ahead, but showing great complexity now. Eucalyptus, bay leaf, barrel toast, and black currant on the nose. Deep blue and black fruits on the palate along with tobacco, graphite, and sweet oak. Velvety smooth tannins carry a finish of cassis and black pepper. — 7 years ago
