A gift from a friend, decided to open this one tonight. An Argentinian "Claret", this is a Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon blend (40/30/30). This Mendoza red blend comes from an area first planted back in 1895 and has grown so much in scope that over 150 families of workers tend the massive vineyard acreage. The vine of choice for this region is Malbec - a frost sensitive vine that produces a thin skinned fruit that yields an inky purple, high tannin juice, often used in blending. ~$24 | #mendoza #claret #southamerica
On the eyes: Deep, dull, opaque, purple-red, med+ stain, med+ tears, no gas/floc.
On the nose: Black cherry, cocoa nibs, cola, mushroom, and hints of licorice and spice. Med+ alcohol.
On the tongue: Med+ tannin, med acid, med+ alcohol, full body. Black currents, cherries, and mulberries, rounded with earthiness and oak. This one could stand another year in the bottle. — 9 years ago
The best #pinotnoir I've had from #southamerica yet. This was light and fresh with moderate intensity. The fruit was red and ripe but finessed at the same time. Moderate complexity and great balance. #argentina #bodegachacra #barda — 9 years ago
