Opened and decanted two hours prior to service; enjoyed over the course of a couple hours. The 1997 “Vigneto Brich Ronchi” pours a deep, hazy garnet color with an opaque core; medium+ viscosity with no staining of the tears and some signs of sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe and desiccated black and red fruits: Blackberry, Morello cherry, bruised strawberry, dried roses, tar, leather, potting soil, and subtle warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with high tannin and medium+ acid. The finish is long and savory. This is in a lovely spot. Drink now through 2027.

Xmas eve 2022 at Changwen’s. Psy brought. Dark red fruits on the nose. Not very complex.

The 2004 Barbaresco is a pretty wine with perfumed aromatics and layers of sweet dark fruit. It offers excellent length, elegant tannins and an attractive, accessible personality that captures the essence of the 2004 vintage. Although this Barbaresco doesn’t carry a vineyard designation it is made from the Montersino vineyard just outside Alba. It was aged exclusively in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2009-2016. RP90

I was afraid this was going to be too old. I was gladly surprised by this. The nose was divine, fully mature, a melange if cherry and modest oak in a velvety texture. Can last a few more years!

Still quite tannic and tight even after a long while in the glass. Felt a bit muddled on the palate and lacked that refreshing tinge of acidity. But, overall still nice - just underperformed expectations.
