Austin Hope
Hope Family Vineyard Syrah
Deep garnet red. Tons of spices and sweet spices on the attack of the nose with cinnamon, nutmeg, anise and some earthy notes, smoky and blackberries. Medium and well integrated tannins (6/10) with balanced acidity. Strong scent of black pepper with blue and black berry undertones on the attack of the palate. Medium to medium plus bodied with some herbs, leather, toasty and smoky notes near coming through the long finish. High alcohol but still balanced. Drinking well right now but can go another couple years. Drink till 2020.

Mar 4th, 2015Blackberry, plum and lots of vanilla (almost caramel) on the nose, but still some brightness to it. So smooth. Oak bomb. The opposite of terroir. Jammy and big.

Nov 7th, 20202012 vintage bought at the winery. Deep rich purple colour. Big black fruit aromas with kirsch, cardomann and black pepper. This is a smooth wine. Spicy ripe blackberry and cherry, baker’s spice and vanilla. Medium acidity and tannins, I wish it had more lift at the finish. Don’t get me wrong, this is a nice wine.

Jan 2nd, 2017A mouthful of blackberry and peppered beef. The finish is long and smooth, full of pepper and ending with a hint of spice box. The pepper lingers for 60 seconds. Lovely inky color with strong legs, and the tannins, while smooth, give ample support. At least 5 years left. A good example of what Paso Robles can do.

May 8th, 2016V12. Nice wine. White pepper and cedar bouquet. Big jammy blackberry, blueberry and big peppery fruit. Slight mocha on the finish. Big cloying fruit/spice finish, not on a bad way, but may limit food pairings.
