Sept: always a great month-wedding anniversary, humidity gone, and Bogle releases Phantom. The 04 was served at my wedding. This wine still never fails to impress. Consistently punching above its weight, the newest iteration ('12) is nuanced, toasty and complicated. Lots of smoky tannins take over after a nose that is a healthy mix of floral notes and crushed stone. Tart, jammy, but never in your face dark berry flavors gently coat the tongue. Finish is clean and fruit forward. Buy now. Drink over 7 years. 16 bucks at trader Joe's. In my experience, the wine is gone within a month or less on release.

Jul 9th, 2017Although the Bogle family has been farming since the 1800's, it wasn't until 1968 that the father and son team of Warren and Chris Bogle planted their first 20 acres of wine grapes in Clarksburg, CA. A blend of 39% Zinfandel, 38% Petite Sirah and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, ripe berry and spice aromas. On the palate dark berry flavors with pepper, oak and spice. Good balance, fine chalky tannins on medium finish ending with oaky notes.
