Black Chicken Napa Valley Zinfandel 2017

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Sweet nose of black fruits, cedar, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco and black pepper.

Full bodied and elegant with medium acidity and long legs

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cooked cherries, light cedar, licorice, chocolates, coffee, light earth and peppercorn.

Tangy finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.

This 9 year old Zinfandel from Napa Valley is drinking beautifully now. Nicely balanced with a nice mouthfeel, complex and entertaining.

Drinking at its peak, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. Tangy and spicy, rich and inviting.

I had this vintage 7 years ago, and it is drinking much better now.

Wine Enthusiasts 91 points.

Good right out of the bottle, and good by itself or with food.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

92 points.

$50.

I would absolutely buy this one again! Especially at the $20-$25 price point.
Delicious blueberry and rhubarb pie on the nose. Silky tannins with low acidity, and a long vanilla finish with mild oak. Well balanced and very enjoyable.

Geyserville Sonoma County Zinfandel Blend 2022

My Pagani Ranch post totally disappeared. Bummer, I tagged my friends in it!
Geyserville is very nice, too!

@Dave - Two weeks worth of wines notes disappeared from my page too. But I was curious if they had completely disappeared or just from my page. So I searched for a couple of them, and turns out they’re still somewhere on the app. Just not on my page.

Yeah I see that. I should have known. @Tom Casagrande

Turley

Old Vines California Zinfandel

Ten years post vintage, the 2016 shows little sign of age. Dark, warming, smooth and rich. Dusty tannins and the 15.5% alcohol has mellowed as has the typical peppery bite on the back-end of Zins. All around, still drinking great — a day ago

Lytton Springs Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel Blend 2022

Day 1 of this year's Smallmouth Smackdown has begun. After 7 hours on the boat, and a dozen bass, it's time to crack into some libations (had a few PBR's on the boat).
This is a lush Zin. Concentrated fruit, but savory and chewy. Blackberry, blood orange, cigar box, and enough structure to age much longer. This is my 3rd Ridge Zin, and I'd have to say I still favor the Pagani Ranch.

@Dave, bravo my man!! The other advice you received is also great!! I think Pagani vs. Lytton Springs vs. Geyserville vs. any other Ridge Zin is often vintage, since they’re all blends!! (In fact, Geyserville never (mostly?) never says Zinfandel on the label since it very rarely (never?) is at least 75% Zinfandel, which is the CA requirement for varietal name on the label.

@Dave I think Zin and many other wines (looking at you too Southern Rhone reds) lose some balance, complexity, and food-flexibility at that level and beyond, frequently in the pursuit of higher scores from quick-sipping critics who need to be “wowed” in 15 seconds or less.
