This is a really incredible bottle of wine, and a great value even at 25+ a bottle. Some light cherry, dusty woody tannins, and some gamey meat at the end. Had this vintage 6 months ago and it was not the same wine. This is evolving month by month in the bottle.

An oldie, but goodie...fresh acidity, elegant, subdued fruit, classic Sangiovese textures and flavors. Perfect example of Chianti Classico Riserva, and great value.

Cherry, raspberry, espresso, incense, and oak-induced vanilla and spice on very aromatic and open nose. Round and silky on the palate with fine tannins and fresh acidity. The finish is surprisingly long. It has the purity that is not often seen in a wine I this price range. Great value!

In these heady days of globalised en primeur releases, in tandem price appreciation and quality amelioration, the budget-minded wine buyer must consistently seek out the unfashionable. Chianti, still lodged in many minds as a source of romantic and cheap straw-covered fiascos--contents rarely as memorable as their packaging--is an undervalued source of fine wine. This Riserva is Exhibit A. Around $23.00, and just buzzing with intelligence, tradition, and provenance. Cellarable, too. Classic Sangiovese nose of dusty dark fruit. Great structure, acid, tannins, long finish. Beautiful work.

Major Brett notes, which certainly makes this wine not for everyone. For me, however, there is a rusticity in this wine that stems from a pleasant integration of these barnyard-like flavors and fresh, lively red fruits.
