The riserva in this vintage is the better way to go v the Chianti Classico. More expression and the tannins have mellowed, just like a good riserva should work. If you ever get a chance to go to Volpaia, I highly recommend it. Easy point between Florence and Siena and you can stay with Guido and Martina at La Locanda.

Fantastic, drinking well young after a splash decant. Simple and precise. Pure red berry fruit balanced with woody/tobacco. Structured, vibrant, and long.

Earthy, mushrooms, leather, cherries, little bit of cinnamon jolly rancher, herbs. Haven’t had a Chianti in a long time. Nice to revisit. Nice long weekend is on the horizon. Hope everyone is staying safe with so many disasters happening all at one. ☹️

1/2021. While my experience with Chianti is limited this is I’m one of the few that I have enjoyed. Nice fruit and finish. Paired well with the wheat spaghetti with red sauce and sausage.
