Charles "Champagne Charlie" Heidsieck was one of the first to recognize the importance of the U.S. as a Champagne market. A blend with 40% reserve wines, fruit and floral bouquet, with orange blossom & yeasty notes. Fine bubbles, nice mousse, showing quality. Outstanding rich flavors of apple, pear and biscuit, well balanced, good structure, creamy. Long finish ending with toasty nutty oak & mineral notes.

Love ending meals with Champagne! This is always a charmer. Some pastry richness and excellent energy.

My style of Champagne...65% reductive-35% oxidative. Really love how they stylized this cuvée.

Previous notes will stand.

Last of our garden cherries tomatoes. 😞

Tonight we tested the Riedel Vintage Sommelier flutes with the friends that gifted us our first set vs the flutes we had been using.

I wanted to do it with this champagne as I know it well. Moving back and forth between flutes, the nose was more green apple with the Somm flutes which, show more pineapple at the start.

From the Somm flutes there was green apple, lime zest, lemon, nougat, almonds, yeasty, more refined grainy minerals, volcanics, saline, yellow flowers with jasmine. The acidity is near perfect. The finish is; rich, well polished, nicely knitted and persists for minutes.

Opened a mag tonight and it’s just (to me) the nonpareil for NV Champers at an affordable price point.

Hopefully, our 49er celebration Champange. Go 9ers.

The Charles Heidsieck is a beautiful Champagne with great mouthfeel. Hard to beat at just under $50.

Hope you have some nice bottles planned for your Super Bowl party. Cheers! 🍾🥂

It’s a little birthday pre-celebration for the birthday girl before we head north tomorrow for a big Bordeaux tasting and dinner to celebrate.

That’s her enjoying the afternoon sun in the D&S Lounge on her day off. Happy Birthday Sofia! Love you.

As for the Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve, it never disappoints.

The palate shows beautiful mousse, green & golden apple, pineapple juice, some pear, a touch of cider, lemon & lime zest, kiwi, green melon, notes of caramel, baguette crust, mixed greens, saline, sea fossils & spray, grainy, grey volcanic minerals, low intensity white spice, thick, powdery chalkiness, spring flowers, jasmine, soft, crisp acidity and a well balanced & polished finish.

Photos of; the birthday queen on her throne, her birthday bouquet, long shot of our yard and a nice fall sunset with a glass of celebration nectar. 😜🎉🎊🎂🥂

It was 19 in TX Tues, hailed yesterday, and is 80 degrees today. Welcome to spring in TX.

I love the info on the back of these bottles as they give detail to the base vintage and when they were disgorged. This is ‘08 base, disgorged 2017.

Right up my alley. I’d call this oxidative, but not overly so. There is a Krug-ness about this style. It’s toasty and savory with a little caramel, toffee and baked apple. Creamy. For my personal taste, while I enjoy all champagne cold, this is one of the few styles that holds up well even once it warms up slightly as there isn’t a lot of tartness here.
