Château Batailley
Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon
#AgedWineTuesday
Dark ruby in color with a short purple rim.
Great nose of blueberries, cherries, currants, oak, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, cedar, tobacco, mocha, light vegetables, pencil lead, peppercorn, dark coffee, tobacco leaf and black tea.
Full bodied and smooth with medium plus acidity.
Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, cloves, herbs, spices, dark chocolates, coffee, wet leaves, vegetables, green herbs, tobacco leaf and peppercorn.
Medium finish with firm tannins and tangy raspberries.
This 14 year old Left Bank Bordeaux is drinking very nicely now. Good right out of the bottle and gets earthier as it opens up. Showing great complexity and mouthfeel. Delicious.
This 5th growth needs time to open up properly. Tannins come in after 90 minutes of airtime. After 2 hours, it becomes very grippy on the finish.
Still young and has a lot of years in it. I'd like to revisit this in 10 years. I really loved smelling on it for a long time.
Wine Advocate 91 points.
Thank you David for sharing. I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats and cheeses.
A blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. Aged for 18 months in (55% New) French oak barrels.
13% alcohol by volume.
92 points.
$65.

Deep red fading at the edges of the glass, plenty of fruit, black berries, tannins starting to soften

Dec 8th, 2015Need at least to be 2 hours decanted. Strong Cassis flavor and still strong tanine at the end. A nice Pauillac with potential but needs a lot of air!
