Château Carbonnieux
Pessac-Léognan White Bordeaux Blend
Opened another recently, legendary wine, said that in the 18th century was introduced to Sultan of Constantinople's palace b/c of its clarity and called "mineral water from Carbonnieux", defying Islamic law. Pale lemon with pronounce aromas of tropical and stone fruits with herb notes. On the palate flavors of melon, mango, apple, green herbs and a crisp mineral edge. Medium+ length, balanced acidity, ending with a fruit, citrus mineral character. Nice, aging well.

Aug 25th, 2021Pale Lemon in colour. Muted aromas of citrus but with time Lemon cream. Oak is perfectly balanced giving a creamy nuance on the palate finishing with a nice cleansing acidity. A blend of 70% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon. Not overly complex but is an excellent summer time white. Short term drinking. Had my last bottle of 3 on 13th July 2022. No discernible change to this note 131 weeks ago. A good combination of citrus and creamy oak. Pleasant enough but no great complexity. Same score of 88.

Jul 17th, 2019Very sleek and elegant, beautifully integrated oak. Slightly reductive notes of slate, hazelnuts, celery seed, white peach and key lime. Wonderful mineral flourishes in a very fresh style.

Oct 27th, 2021Well the bottle is empty on “opening night” so that says something. I would definitely try another vintage, the 2017 is a WE Cellar Selection. The oak on this Sauvignon Blanc / Semillon blend is perfect, adding a understated chamomile lift to the finish. It’s the mid palate that perhaps lacks intrigue, but it’s very drinkable.
