Calm and resolved noise with gorgeous fruit. Poised on the midpalate. Very good

Rating refers to the last glass, which was the best. Our foul… upon opening it was almost a little thin and flat. But as we swirled it got better and better until there was quickly none left. Last glass had bramble, earth, caramel. Nice 1998!

Ripping on all cylinders. Rich yet restrained fruit with underlying brush & garrigue.

Taken to the Forest Theater in Carmel. Great nose with notes of red and black fruit, Herbs de Provence, wispy brush and some dry earth. Nice mouth feel and texture. I haven’t been a big fan of this vintage but this was very nice.

Quite the difference from 2000 vintage I had in October. Powerful and intense requiring a lengthy decant, layered with both red and black fruits, lots of spices, hints of licorice and game. Finishes long with excellent depth and richness. ❤️

Gorgeous! Elegant, soulful, texturally pleasing with its richness and suave imprint. Complimentary facets of juicy grenache and mourvedre sauvage; rich roasted fruit, savory earth, spices, minerals, flowers, and animal. Salty underpinnings that really began to gain complexity with air, leather towards the end of the bottle. Brett interwoven and in check to me.

Another fantastic pull - 1998 is drinking so well and yet can see another 10+ years.

This is a very nice, 21 year old, Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Showing great complexity and mouthfeel.

Dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, earth, wood, vanilla, vegetables, wet leaves, black tea, black pepper and spices.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

Needs an hour to open up properly, but good right out of the bottle as well.

This 1998 was a great vintage. This is a wonderful experience, yummy and delicious.

Served from a Magnum.

93 points.

Opened two bottles, both were in great shape. Manageable Brett, slight bottle variation, one seemed to be more concentrated than the other. Fun stuff, corks were in great shape. These aren’t getting better.

From #magnum I was a touch concerned with the past storage conditions of this bottle based off the color, a loose structure and oxidative notes. Complexity and character were good but the structure was lacking taking away from the potential energy and length. #1998 #chateauneufdupape #chateaudubeacastel #rhonevalley #ctbucklinwine
