Château Haut-Batailley
Pauillac Cabernet Sauvignon - Merlot Blend
A classified growth Bordeaux is not normally my Thursday evening tipple but for some unknown reason I felt a little like celebrating. This is drinking quite well right now. Nose opens with just a little air to show cassis and blackberry, leather, moist gravel, and a subtle graphite note. In the mouth, it’s got medium concentration, with soft but abundant tannins in the background and surprisingly good acids. In the drier side. Not a blockbuster or long ager, but quite elegant.

May 31st, 20242015 vintage. Very nice wine, even if I expected a bit more weight on the mid palate. Long, mineral finish.

Sep 23rd, 20242015 vintage. Last tasted 11.4.21 (9.4). Late night PNP. Slightly less tannins and has picked up a bourbon-styled nose along with a mostly decomposed/integrated manure cameo. Light-medium body. Raspberry and delicate chocolate notes resonate. The cigar/tobacco influences still there but less pronounced. Wine is getting prettier but squarely between homme et femme. Finish is still no stops till Hades. 5.14.24.

May 15th, 20242015。ポイヤックとサンジュリアン的ないい点が合体してる、ある人には最高のマリアージュ。開栓後とデカンティング後と完全に別人格が現れて面白い。エノテカで11000円。メドック格付け5級。

Dec 24th, 20212015 vintage. Wow. Respectable nose that undersells what is to come. Light/light-medium body. Powdered tannins mixed with the balanced flavors of ripe cherry. tobacco, spice box, dark chocolate and dark plum. Complementary, yet unobtrusive, oak treatment. Long draw and complex finish goes over the minute mark. Best QPR Pauillac I've had in a few years. Currently drinking like it has an additional five years of age on it...knitting together so nicely. Stash a few of these in the collection for guilt-free pleasure down the road.

Nov 5th, 20212015 vintage. Last tasted 5.15.24 (9.4) and 11.4.21 (9.4). Was expecting more of the same. Surprise!! Was fleshy and drinking more like a 5-7 year old, new school St. Émilion without any tannins/brakes. No obvious signs of abuse or neglect but not rating. Back in the day, purchased U2-The Unforgettable Fire brand new from the local record store when it first came out (1985?) on cassette. When I slipped it in the tape deck, Van Halen II came out. Still traumatized, obvs. Kinda like that but nearly four decades later-and pricier. 7.15.24.
