I always get cedar from St Julien, so that old familiar friend reappears in this 2014. Silky blackberry and cassis slip through an edge of muscly earth and powerful tannins. Virginia pipe tobacco and graphite. Wicked.

Decanted for 5 hours but id go way longer if you can. 24 would be great.

Pre-holiday season celebratory bottle. The nose is true-to-type Saint Julien with that tar, cedar, cigar box note. There are notes of black currant, black berry, cherry, brambley, leafy touches too, a bit of chocolate and coffee too. The palate is well balanced and shows a great acid backbone, some width, some black currant touches all along, some meaty, savoury notes too. But it's a bit thin. There are some grainy tannins in the rear that power up a rather long finish with that drying grain, black currant and meaty, savoury discreet touches for a good while. It's not a great wine and certainly not the best Lagrange I've had but it's still a good Saint Julien to enjoy with a good winter meaty meal with family or friends. 2014 proves to be one of the lesser Bordeaux vintages of the last 15 years it seems...

2014 vintage. Decanted and tasted immediately and after 45 minutes. Zero sed on the decant. Medium body. Was expecting it to be a little bigger. Graphite/lead pencil and some funk in the nose. The funk blew off after 10-15 mins. Flavors presented as lean and mean with plenty of baking chocolate and earth waving hello. Likely needed two solid hours in the decanter before pestering. 1.11.24.
