Château Malescot St. Exupéry
Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend
At peak maturity without being dominated by all tertiary notes. Dark stewed fruit, incense, and cinnamon. Faded quickly but worth the wait.

Aug 3rd, 2020Tasted this in 2016, and surprisingly, this hadn’t evolved to a better place. Cow dung and cigar notes on the nose. Good fruit on the mid-palate, but the acid is exuberant, which causes the experience to be slightly angular and disjointed.

Dec 6th, 2019Just opened the case, which came direct from the winery, en primeur.
I let this breathe for 3 hrs, reason being, I could smell sh%* in my glass. It took a while to evaporate, but in the end, the Bdx notes shone through. This needs food, as the acid structure overpower the tannins. Good light mouthfeel with a tart cherry finish. Drink this with rich meats or full-fat, soft cheeses. Still fresh and youthful, and has the stuffing to last for another 15 years, at least.
At 12.5 abv, the alcohol was nowhere to be seen.

A very large scale Margaux composed of about 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petite Verdot. This wine had generous aromatics, with everything from dark cassis to green peppers on the nose. In the mouth it was the sweetest of the Medoc wines, and among the sweetest of the whole tasting, with lots of rich fruit, full body and big texture. This also has a big backbone of tannin, and drinks well right now with richer dishes like the short ribs that we had with it.

Feb 23rd, 2015Good but probably better a number of years ago. Lots of acid, still, but the fruit has receded a bit so this is not quite in balance. Still clearly a nice Bordeaux, just would have wanted to drink it in 2015.

Dec 14th, 2019Nice treat for my birthday. Def a Margaux. All the right tannins and soil yet excellent berry overture from start to finish. Paired with ribeye from Darien Butcher Shop.
