Château Margaux
Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend
Happy Memorial Day Weekend to everyone! Please have a safe and fun weekend with family and friends.
This wine I had today is the second vintage of the 3rd label from Chateau Margaux. A blend of 59% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc. Almost a year ago I had the pleasure of having the 1st vintage of this 3rd label the 2009. The 10' is not quite up to the same level as the 09' but still has a lot of the same characteristics.
The aromatics are very pronounced with notes of black currant, kirsch, baking spice, roses, violets and a minerality.
The palate is silky smooth as I remember the 09' well balanced, black cherry, raspberry, blackberry, mocha, and some black pepper.
There is nice vibrant medium + acidity, grippy fine medium + tannins. A very lovely wine just lacks the finesse of the 09'

The nose is delicate and has hints of kirsch and deep red fruits. On the palette, the wine is surprisingly mis-behaved, slightly angular. For the vintage and winery, it is a disappointment. Priced at $50 glass at Nougatine (Jean Georges) - not worth the sticker price 😏 The 2009 was outstanding in comparison.

Mar 11th, 2017This was the Margaux that without question has been the best bottle of French wine that I have had to date and futhermore, has really spoiled me to no end. I had this wine at Jean-Georges in NYC and it truly left a remarkable long lasting memory that I will not forget. Although the review is well past due, I remember it as if it were yesterday. Upon the uncorking of the bottle, the beautiful perfumes and floral bouquet of the Margaux really opened up - It was like love at first sight! The dark deep ruby colored wine provided beautiful fragrances of rich dark fruit spice, currant, slight chocolate/mocha. The wine did have a slight minerality and was filled with freshly picked blackberries, blueberries, vanilla, spice, creme de cassis, cedar, and rose petals. The tannins were very refined but still present and the wine was so silky and smooth. This was a beautiful wine and left a lasting impression that I soon hope to experience again. Merci Beaucoup Château Margaux and a special thanks to my friend Kyle for introducing me to Margaux and instilling in me his passion for French Wine Making!
