From a bottle with lower neck fill and a fairly loose cork, my hopes weren’t too high for this well-known 1986 Moulis. Sure enough, it was quite tired and certainly past its prime drinking window, but it had no faults and opened up nicely on the night, revealing a delicate, charming claret that suited well to roast pork.

Clearly the sleeper Bordeaux tonight, not as refined or complex as the two Leoville Barton, but great for what it was, a lovely red-fruited Moulis from a tannic vintage that tasted super fresh and punched above its weight, everyone loved it!!

Dec 11th, 2020Translucent amber rim, medium garnet color. Nose of blackberry, black currant, funk, leather, mocha, earth. Mellow palate of plum and tobacco. Dry with soft tannins. Lighter, classic style.
