Château Poujeaux

Château Poujeaux

Moulis en Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

I really enjoyed this wine. Gave it lots of air as 2019 is really too young and this improved it immensely. Typical Bordeaux nose with lots of fruit. Balanced and moreish without being overcomplicated. — 2 months ago

This is a producer bottling that over-delivers in good vintage with the appropriate aging.

Agree 100% with @David T - I had bottles of 1982 and 1986 that easily lasted 15+ years from vintage!!

Château Côte de Baleau

St. Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2013

This estate was bought in 2013 by the Cuvelier family (Clos Fourtet and Poujeaux), but the previous owner Sophie Fourcade already made great efforts to improve the wines. This 2018 features a deep red colour, a flamboyant perfume with truffle, red fruit and flowers. Concentrated, with layers of red fruit and spices and a serious tannic structure. Good length too. As this estate (promoted to Grand Cru Classé in the 2012 classification) is still very much under the radar it is great value and worth seeking out for less than 25 euros. — 3 years ago

La Closerie du Grand Poujeaux

Moulis en Médoc Merlot Blend 1999

I had the 1998 vintage of this dusty old Bordeaux about 5 months ago and it was underwhelming. Maybe an off bottle. But THIS 99 is pretty great. Fresh mixed berries (blueberry) on the nose, and very elegant fruit + tame soft tannins give a really nice mouthfeel with an extraordinarily long finish. Dried herbes de Provence and hay for days. I’m having one glass tonight and will check back in tomorrow after more air. Not an expensive bottle, but age served it well.

Follow up: Really singing on day 2. Got even better with another hour+ in the glass. But I’d say it’s getting slightly past its prime and best to drink now :) Party like it’s 1999.

Château Belgrave

Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

2019 vintage. Tasted alongside Poujeaux 2019, this Belgrave seems more powerful and more extracted. More gentle extractions seem to suit the vintage better, therefore I rate the Poujeaux a little higher. But this is still a very good wine and terrific value as it is dumped in supermarkets at 20,90 euros. They don't seem to have much faith in their Grand Cru Classé status... — 3 years ago

Château Gressier Grand Poujeaux

Moulis en Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Wednesday night's middle of the week wine is the 2010 Château Gressier Grand Poujeaux. This wine is a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot and made in conjuction with Château Chasse-Spleen.

The nose reveals juicy dark fruit, black cherry, black raspberry, black plum, black currant, licorice, violet floral notes, chocolate and an earthiness.

The palate leads us to the same juicy dark fruits of black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, herbal notes, licorice, violet florals, toasty oak and good earthy notes.

We have a full bodied medium + acidity, medium + gripping tannins that moves right into a long finish with lingering cherry notes straight through. Enjoy the down hill side of your week and continued safe travels. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷
