Copain
Halcon Yorkville Highlands Syrah

Deep dark red-purple colour. Initial nose reminescent of fresh (as opposed to jammy) blackberries and cassis; after swirling notes of Provencal herbs(thyme, rosemary) with a subtle hint of black pepper. This smells like a Northern Rhône Syrah (Saint-Joseph or Hermitage, rather than Cote Rotie). Medium-bodied with medium-high acidity, not as light as the alcohol level suggests. Smooth tannin. Medium-length and not really complex, but a satisfying glass of cool-climate Syrah. Expensive though for what it is. 2012 vintage, 12,2 % abv., 59 euro ( about 69 $).

The savory note made it compelling and the soft tannins made it easy to drink

Looking at some of these other descriptions and wondering if I was drinking the same bottle. This 2012 was definitely not brooding or jammy. It came off as medium to light body, decent acid, tart fruit, and a bit herbal. A very gamay-tasting Syrah.
