Nerello Mascalese blend with Nerello Cappucio - the typical Etna blend - but a Single Contrada (ie Site) from North Etna - 80/20. Touch of Varnishy wood but overall well integrated. Medium bodied at best with savoury tannins.

This is an interesting wine. Almost fruit backwards. Garnet with slight bricking at edges. Musky floral scent. Took about an hour to start opening. Balanced acidity and tannins. Leather, tobacco, sweet undergrowth and charcoal at the front with little fruit - very earthy and pleasant. Unexpectedly a lengthy finish transformed into a BURST of light berry flavors - strawberry, raspberry, blueberry - yet with a hint of earthy graphite and mossy undergrowth. Quite unique.

First of the Sicilian entries, less popular than the Tancredi afterward though excellent pairing with Greek chicken/salad…more the traditionally Mediterranean earth though far more elegantly done
