Pétalos Bierzo Mencía

Grabbed a bottle I had in my cellar. Nice blend of 4 grapes from the Bierzo Valley. Deep red color with Lighter edges with tons of Berry fruit on the nose adding some sweet floral spice. The smooth soft palate shows cherries, raspberries, and blueberries with a mineral tang. Well balanced with integrated dusty tannins, lively acidity and a smokey dry finish that lingers nicely, excellent structure. Tremendous value.

Very soft. Light pepper and fruit and some rounding tannins.

Served with braised lamb neck dish. The iron note in this wine is omnipresent. This is blood juice. All cement ferment. Lots going on in this wine. There is something special here.

Gxy. Soft dark and deep

Coming from northwest province of Leon (Spain) the clay and slate soil help to produce these lush aromas and flavors of licorice, minerality, hint of spice and wild flower floral components. Nice medium body wine. That's what I'm talking about! I'm drinking it all tonight! ;)

A big hit of sulphur upon opening, but that blew off with some air. Solid, if unspectacular, and a good widely available reference point Mencia.
