Pétalos Bierzo Mencía

Mencia is still unusual territory to me! But I would like to play more on its playground. @Anthony Lombardi I think you recommended this one! It hit my nose with leather but over the next hour or so unfolded: I got blackberries and flowers and dried savory herbs and then the green pepper came out to play, but just a bit. Mild in the acid, alcohol and body but still interesting. I would like to explore more Mencia!

Demonstrating consistency from Palacios. Minimal intervention wine with floral fragrance plus a dash of barnyard. Elegant concentration of raspberries and soft spice with seamless oak integration. Benchmark Bierzo.

Cru Beaujolais meets bourgueil

Slightly off-balanced between tannins and acidity. Black cherry and licorice w/ a medium finish. This bottle was disadvantaged given the pairing with Japanese cuisine.

Hatten av, Petalos håller stilen. Fullt drickbar nu, men ge den några år så kommer den att vara ännu bättre (alkoholen sticker ut lite väl). Provensalska örter, rostig metall, mörka bär och lakrits.

2014. We’ve been working our way through an array of sausages from an awesome new butcher shop close to our house and chose this wine to pair with Caldo Gallego. The chorizo sausage and salty smoky broth accentuated the berry fruit flavors and made for a great match!

Petalos 2014, entry wine from the renouned Bierzo estate Descendientes de J. Palacios. 100% Mencia. The nose gives wet leaves and dark fruit. On the palate strawberries, dark berries and soft tannines. Very good price-quality at 15 Eur!
