Dow's
Late Bottled Vintage Porto
Fall is almost here, and it’s the season I love to drink port. Dow, producing Ports for over 2 centuries. One of the first to establish its own vineyards, acquiring Senhora da Ribeira, in the remote Upper Douro, in 1890 & Bomfim, in the heart of Alto Douro, in 1896. Aromas of really ripe fruits & pleasant fragrant spices. On the palate, ripe fruit flavors, candied apple and sweet blackberries with bits of cacao and honey. Firm dusty tannins, good balance, lingering finish. Perfect now. Tasting Sample.

Nov 10th, 2017Marinated mushroom magic. Grapes and raisins, cassis berry, skateboard bushing and candied violets inform an incredibly soft nose. A very blackberry and black currant reduction comes as a surprise bonus with charcoal, black pepper soaked in dry pencil wood and grape skin. This is solid and complex. The finish is endlessly complex vs the common fare. Unexpected from such value port. #port #porto #lbv #dows #portuguesewine #fortified #privateports

Oct 10th, 2017Served by the glass for $9.00 on the cruise. Super dark ruby red. Lots of dark raisins on the nose with dark cherries and quite a bit of heat coming through. Similar notes on the palate but a bit thin. Medium plus finish. Decent entry level bottling for someone wanting to learn more about port. Drink till 2021.

Sep 5th, 2017A delicious example of LBV Port - it has all the classic vintage port attributes - plummy licorice aromas and flavors, balanced seemed and acidity, chewy texture -- all this is in the LBV except with a little less intensity. I like the Dow style - it's less sweet than Grahams and a bit more herbal in character. This is a beautiful wine for the price
