Popped and poured, zero sediment. Color shows a little amber at the rim. Nose smells a bit tertiary for a wine only 6 years old. Scents of rioe, macerated cherry competing with old leather and some mahogany furniture scent. Lots of dessicated gravel too. In the mouth it’s a bit lean, with puckery tannins and a shortish finish. Flavors on entry are on the savory side. Lacks fruit somewhat on the palate. Just OK, which is disappointing for this wine.
UPDATE: On night 2, after being under a vacuum closure, it’s showing more depth, liveliness, and fruit. Upping the score from 8.7 on night one to 8.9 on night 2.

The 2020 Chianti Classico Riserva pours a deep garnet color with a transparent core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with lovely notes of tart and ripe red and black fruit: Morello cherry, blackberry, black tea, dried green herbs, dry gravelly earth, and theres a little bit of VA too. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ and zippy with a very elegant texture. A lovely example of the 2020 vintage. Drink now through 2035.

Dried herbs, dried cherry, some other berries, a bit of leather, no doubt about this one being a Chianti. Classic and so good. Amazing with food.
