Happy Father's Day!
This was a real treat to enjoy courtesy of my father-in-law. Cork struggled to come out easily! Lovely notes of leather & dark berries...tastes extremely smooth and is starting to resemble a Bordeaux style. Love seeing the sediment!

Drinks like a younger version, which means this can age for a lot longer.

On the nose, bell pepper, red fruit, black fruit (both still very ripe), tobacco leaf, cinnamon stick, nutmeg, vanilla.

The palate is more of the nose plus finely integrated tannins that leave a smooth finish.

I am biased towards Freemark Abbey. I do not care. Full monty.

Hard to believe this was a 05, no browning at the rim

Intense aromas of fresh and dried red cherry, cassis, blackberry. Intense savory notes of cigar smoke and dried leaf, dry earth, licorice

Palate is lifted but full bodied with medium + tannin and at least medium acid (definitely moreso than the heitz). Confirming the nose but juicier. Long finish of fruit

Big fruit and large raspberry and plum flavors. Somewhat overpowering and not smooth enough needs 1-2 hours to breath before full flavor profile is realized then it became a nicer wine
