Gamba
Gamba Estate Vineyard Old Vine Zinfandel
Russian River Valley, Sonoma County, California, USA

A big, deep purple zin with loam, dark cherries. Can definitely taste the dry farmed concentrated fruit.

Truly delicious and a great value! I don't throw out 9.0 ratings much, but this one deserves it.

Blackberry, blueberry, dark cherry on the nose. Jammy and brambly with spice and a hint of tobacco and oak. The palate is rich with will balanced dark fruit, raisin, black cherry and spice. Medium body. Moderate acid and tannins. The finish is medium and accents with ripe fruit and oak.

Dark ruby in color with a purplish rim.
Fruity nose of blackberries, blueberries, cherries, licorice, figs, cloves, earth, leather, spices, peppercorn, smoke and bell pepper.
Full bodied with medium plus acidity and long legs.
Fruity and dry on the palate with blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, oak, vanilla, licorice, figs, raisins, sweet raspberries, chocolates, tobacco leaf, herbs, spices and black pepper.
Medium plus on the finish with firm tannins and black pepper.
What a Delightful Zinfandel from Russian River Valley in California.
Nicely balanced with intriguing complexity. Needs more time in the bottle, though.
Good by itself or with food like BBQ Meats. I paired it with sirloin steak.
And now for the kicker, 16.5% alcohol by volume. (WHAT?)

This wine is very good, but way too big from an alcohol perspective. The nose blinks between what I smell while trail running through a wet forest and mowing the grass when it is wet...there is noticeable spice on first blush, which I think could be attributable to newer oak, then it coats your mouth clinging and lingering as it grabs on to every bit it can oozing vs free-falling offering a full-benefit experience..!
