Cascina Francia Barolo Nebbiolo

Smooth as silk and maybe a bit past mid-life but absolutely perfect with wild boar pasta.

Remember that first time you tasted G. Conterno? Me too it was today.

A great wine in a shit vintage. Just goes to show what a great winemaker can do.

Typical of the vintage, but still very pleasant to drink. Dried dark fruit and herbs. Intense, but not just one note of ripe fruit here.

What a beauty. Nothing over the top despite the vintage. Has aged like a dream.

Restrained, abundant, meaningful

Quite tasty. Lightly smoky, earthy nose. Cherries on the palate, mushroom plus leathery-oaky notes. Tannic grip was good, as was its acidity. 2003 was the hot year in Europe, I wouldn't call this cooked or stewed. Glad I drank it now.
Day 2&3 a bit more compact, but the tannins and lip-smacking cherry palate were still good.

Took awhile to open up as expected but drinking incredibly well.
