A more serious version of Sicily’s signature red, Nero d’Avola with some oak treatment. Richer with noticeable oak and some “work “. Quite dry tannins. Cannot see ageing benefiting this overly. The oak influence will impress naive palates so that may be Gulfis aim?

Saturday night and I have for the first time opened a Nero d'Avola, the 2013 Gulfi Nerojbleo from Sicily.

The nose reveals notes of black cherry, black plum, dried herbs, licorice, tobacco, dried floral notes, oak and clay dust.

On the palate I am getting good fruit, black cherry, blueberry, black plum, licorice, leather, dried herbs, and dry soil.

You will find this wine to be full bodied with medium + acidity and high grippy mouth coating tannins that lead to a long fruit filled finish. I'm enjoying my weekend hoping you are too. Please be careful out there and be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Clean clean clean Nero - had it before but forget the great fruit acid balance, without the overpowering fruit that makes me shy away from this grape so much. Great value for this vino da agricoltura biologica

Lots of umami here with sun dried tomatoes, fresh fig, ripe blackberries and a healthy pinch of spices - bay leaf, allspice, pepper.
Medium bodied and soft with juicy acidity and polished tannins. Great balance and drinkability - begs for another sip!
