Loveblock
Central Otago Pinot Noir
Sunday night and tonight's wine is the 2018 Loveblock Pinot Noir from Central Otago, New Zealand.
On the nose there is strawberry, cranberry, cherry, cola, caramel, vanilla and a mineral dust soil component.
On the palate there is nice fruit, cranberry, cherry, raspberry, clove, herbs, mint and dusty soil.
This is a medium bodied wine that has a smooth mouth feel, medium + acidity with medium fine tannins that move right into a medium to long fresh fruit finish. Have a wonderful week ahead and please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

The 2018 Loveblock Pinot Noir comes from the mountains of Central Otago, the small Someone’s Darling Vineyard. It’s all Pinot Noir, and is one of the most restrained and elegant of that varietal that I have tasted from New Zealand. The label may say Central Otago, but the wine suggests Burgundy. It’s aged eight months in used oak barrels, hits 13.5% abv and sells for $30. The nose is light and beautiful. Crawford seemed apologetic when describing it as an odd vintage, but I think she would have more on target to be boastful.

Mar 1st, 2019I typically follow WS when it comes to picking out great wines, but their 93 pts rating and tasting description is wide of the mark. It presents as a typical cool-climate pinot. Really nice brambly nose, with sandalwood and rose petals. Palate is high-pitched, with the elevated acid being the first noticeable aspect. Fruits such as pomegranate follow through to the end. Medium tannins and a light texture complete what is a clean, vibrant example. $24 for this vintage in NJ.
I rated this 88 pts, while wifey was in the 91/92 zone, so we split the difference.

Excellent Pinot from Central Otago, New Zealand. Rich, intense, fruit forward wine, red berry and currant. Nicely balanced with subtle earthy tannins, hints of mushroom.

Jan 14th, 2021Very nice pale ruby color with a nose of tart cherries, citrus, dried herbs, and a hint of brown sugar. The nose closes with the smell of cap gun powder. Light bodied with a high level of acidity, it closes reminiscent of grapefruit. The nose was promising, but the taste seemed a bit inconsistent with the aroma. Not a bad wine, and I can tell it was well made. However, it’s probably not my favorite style of Pinot. Worth a try though.

Nov 14th, 2020I don’t drink a lot of pinot noir, but I guess this is fine. Reminds me of sacramental wine.

May 30th, 2020Needed to be decanted to be drinkable. Heavy acidity. Once decanted it wasn't bad. Wine spectator #46 best wines of 2019. Didn't see it
